This opening is popping! Loving the costumes

Great respect for foregrounding Margaret, one of Shakespeare's most compelling characters, a war criminal who encourages others to call out war crimes. Also appreciation for dramatically showing the anti-ethics of Christians who weigh actions on their souls' prospects not on empathy and justice, in line with what I imagine are Shakespeare's intents.

I particularly liked the interactions between the four nations captains, the 'needle-work' French-English lessons of the princess, and how Henry after Scroop 'betrayal', terrorising Harfleur and failing to persuade own soldiers in disguise descends into psychological/moral crisis. I did not like the cuts which omitted the premeditated Church-State reasons for the unprovoked English war-crime spree. However, I thought the backs-turned Agincourt battle scenes and the complex off-stage reckoning of victims of the English belligerence worked well. Although the play is pitched as a prequel by Shakespeare, am I right in supposing that GreenStages plan to mount Henry VI chronologically?

There are no impossible choices, only degrees of difficulty. I appreciate this play-length deliberation where there is every opportunity to empathise with the choosers, both lordly and in lowest rank.

I enjoyed this enormously. Thanks for posting it and for all the efforts that went into your excellent production. You absolutely nailed the humour and the staging was very well thought out too.

Helen Roundhill as the jailer's daughter is pure talent, and her dolls and their transformation perfectly represent her innocence, naïveté, delusion and madness. An ingenious decision by the director. The altar scene of praying to Mars, Venus and Diana would dictate the ending but is unfortunately omitted, resulting in this abrupt, unconventional and unconvincing ending of Arcite. His horsemanship foreshadows his end and has been mentioned numerous times in the play.

absolutely fantastic. great performances from everyone. also really enjoyed the emphasis on the fact that hippolyta is theseus' prisoner of war - just one more marriage in this play between two people that don't actually both love each other. also, i REALLY liked the ending with arcite - much better than the original (and i do not say that lightly). excellent work!

Very nicely done -- I dont know this play at all, and so this was my first taste, and what a taste it was. I hope somehow these words of mine get to those who put the play on and who acted in it, because it was not only a finely acted show but a finely crafted production. Applause indeed!
